Washington County was a land grant given to Phillip Skene by the King of England.
Every village and town along the way has its own historical significance.
There is the quaint village of Cambridge. The Rexleigh Covered Bridge, the Fort Salem Theater, and a Revolutionary War Cemetery are located in Salem.
Argyle is an historic village and Fort Edward is the site of Rogers Island (French & Indian War). Whitehall is where Benedict Arnold built a fleet of ships to fight the British at the Battle of Valcour Island on Lake Champlain on October 11, 1776.
